It’s hard to image such a huge band only took 6 photos. I think they got really lucky with only the one shot being useable. Hey John camera’s over here! Paul wearing sandals for this walk.
Macmillan also took a photograph of a nearby tiled street sign for the back cover. The sign has since been replaced, but was situated at the corner of Abbey Road and Alexandra Road. The junction no longer exists; the road was later replaced by the Abbey Road housing estate, between Boundary Road and Belsize Road.

Photo retoucher John Cockcroft added the “BEATLES” signage above the existing “ABBEY ROAD”. He used photos of other signs around the area to spell out “B-E-A-T-L-E-S” and cleverly added the crack in the S to complete the illusion that “BEATLES” was per-existing on the wall. I bet he wished he had Photoshop back then!
